It feels like the school year has gone by so quickly as we end the penultimate week of the school year.
Over the last seven days we have had more school trips, and we look forward to the final ones taking place next week to end the academic year. We must thank several transport teams for their support while our wheelchair accessible minibus has been out of action. Streamline Taxis, Dignity Travel and Fleetways Taxis have taken groups of pupils to make sure that our end of year visits could take place. Thank you also to our parents who have joined the visits, and of course our class teams for all of their hard work in planning and organising these visits each half term across the school year.
Thank you to all those who attended our Sports Day last week. We had almost 200 of our pupils family and friends join us. We really appreciated the wonderful feedback that was shared with our class teams. Here is just a small snapshot of the amazing comments we received “E’s first ever sports day and he did so well I couldn’t be any prouder. Thank you all for everything you do for all the children. The whole set up and day was amazing. My dad was in awe of everything. You’ve given us the most beautiful memories to look back on”. “What a great event – so lovely to see everyone enjoying this. The kids did amazingly! Thank you for all of your work in organising it”. “Thank you so much for all your hard work creating such a fun, warm, inclusive event. I am so grateful that my sister has her boys in your school, surrounded by truly special people. You are an INCREDIBLE bunch of people. Thanks so much”.
Next week, we say goodbye to the truly wonderful Caroline Anderson from our Wellbeing Team. We wish her a fantastic retirement. Many of you will know Caroline for the amazing work she does with not only our pupils, but also their families, by supporting them in meetings, liaising with professionals, and even providing a listening ear and a cuppa with a biscuit. She worked at Lidgett Grove School from the late 90’s before joining Hob Moor Oaks in 2004. The staff team will feel the loss of Caroline hugely. Her knowledge, expertise, experience and skills are things we will all miss, although there will be many who will long for her amazing cheese scones; Nicky, the Wellbeing Team and the Leadership team to name but a few!
Next week, our Family Fun Day will be on Thursday 18th July from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Please let your child’s class team know if you are attending so we know to expect you. Remember, if you are taking your child home following this event to let your child’s class team and transport know. Thank you.
Please note in the Diary Dates, that we have 2 Training Days at the start of the autumn term. School will welcome pupils back on Wednesday 4th September.

Christmas festivities have certainly been underway this week in school. Our Christmas dinner was enjoyed by all yesterday and once again our staff team all pulled together to make this a memorable day for the children.

Thank you to you all for your support at our Christmas events this year, especially the Christmas Fair which was a huge success! I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and Best Wishes for 2023. We all return to school on Tuesday 3rd January for our Annual Pantomime.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Parents’ Evenings this week. Teachers were thrilled that so many of you were really keen to find out how you can support your child(ren)’s learning at home. Just a few minutes each evening reading, practising spellings or learning times tables has such a positive impact. Lots of children have told me how proud their parents have felt after speaking to their teacher!

Last weekend I was certainly very proud of our Federation Dance Squad who performed in the 2022 Yorkshire Schools Dance Festival in Central Hall, University of York. The team made up of children from Hob Moor Primary and Hob Moor Oaks danced with such confidence and even the organiser of the event needed a tissue after our ‘Picture This’ performance. Well done to all those that took part and a massive thank you to all the staff who made it happen– it was certainly a memorable event.

Can you believe it’s time to open our Advent calendars for the first time next Thursday? And our Christmas trees go up today ready for the start of all our Christmas festivities. I can’t wait!

My favourite half term of the academic year is now well underway with so many exciting events for the children to look forward to.

As you can see our Halloween disco was great fun and well attended. Everyone had a brilliant time!

Next week is Anti-Bullying week, being launched on Monday with ‘Odd Socks day’ and finishing on Friday with Children in Need, where we invite children to dress in spots and bring a small donation.

I hope you all enjoyed reading our Ofsted report on the Parent Hub or on our school website last week. As I’m sure you can imagine we are immensely proud of the GOOD judgement. It was wonderful to see the report reflect our true team effort to provide a fantastic education for our children. I would like to thank all our children, staff, governors and families for making Hob Moor an amazing place for us to grow and learn together. I look forward to continuing to work with you all so that the children at Hob Moor continue to be provided with the very best opportunities and move to the next stage of their education with memories for life. Huge congratulations to everyone involved!

Headteachers Update 14th October 2022

Every week is busy at Hob Moor, but goodness this last two weeks have been exceptionally busy, with everyone working so well together to showcase our very best teamwork.

Can I start by saying a huge ‘Thank You’ for all your support on the last day of September to help us raise just over £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support. This was our best effort to date and the number of yummy cakes we had donated was quite overwhelming.

Last week was a memorable one, with a visit from Ofsted. Hob Moor had their last full inspection in 2013 so we’ve been waiting for a visit for some time. The team work was amazing, with everyone playing their part. We are now eagerly waiting for their feed back. All inspection reports go through a series of rigorous checks prior to publication. We do hope we receive our report before half term and everyone will receive this as soon as it is published to the school.

This week we had another successful visit to the school, when Mr Unwin and the Early Years Team hosted a group of Early Years teachers to our Early Years provision. The visitors had the pleasure of watching our youngest children enjoying their maths lessons and then spent time with the children in the Areas of Provision. Well done to everyone involved, the feedback from the day was really positive.

Headteachers Update 30th September 2022

I often say how proud I am to be the Headteacher of such a wonderful school but it’s always heartening when I receive feedback from others saying how amazing our children are, and over the last 2 weeks I’ve received plenty! We have had 2 educational visits so far this half term and I received some lovely comments about our children and staff. Last week, it was from the team at PGL Caythorpe Court after our Year 6 children had a fabulous time on their residential trip. I was lucky to join them for a night and was so pleased with how they supported each other and demonstrated bags of resilience on some very challenging activities. Then we had a visitor from Ebor Academy observing maths lessons for a day with Mr. Lennon and Mr Unwin and she was very complementary about how focussed the children were in lessons. And then earlier this week we welcomed another visitor looking at how we teach phonics and Early Reading and she commented on our highly committed and motivated staff. Keep up the good work everyone!

Next week is Cycle to School week, which is a week-long event where families are encouraged to try cycling and scooting to school.

It’s a great way to celebrate the vast benefits an active school run brings, including its positive impact on children’s health and wellbeing, local air quality and carbon emissions. Join us for Cycle to School Week from 3 to 7 October and help us use pedal power to get to school, but please remember to get off as you come through the main gate to keep everyone safe.

Headteachers Update 16th September 2022

Welcome back to a new school year and a very special welcome to all our new children and families that joined us last week. Everyone has made a wonderful start to the term and it’s been brilliant to see all the children returning to school looking super smart in their school uniform. Thank You for your support with this. I have also been pleased to see everyone dismounting from your bikes and scooters when you come through the main gate on a morning, This makes a safe, calm start to the school day. I have also noticed that between 8.40am and 8.55am there are always available car parking spaces in the first bay (on both sides) as you enter through the gates. There should be no reason for anyone to park on the verges as cars approach the roundabout.

Last week we also welcomed a number of new staff. We hope they enjoy working as part of our amazing team. Since we returned to school, Miss Brady and I have been delighted to see our weekly attendance has not been too far off our target of 97%. We are going to add our class attendance figures to our newsletters and every class that hits the target will get a treat at the end of the week. We can’t emphasise enough how important it is to attend regularly so there is no lost learning and we don’t miss out on any fun activities. Next week our Year 6 children will certainly have lots of fun as they are going on their residential trip to Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire. Let’s hope the sun shines!

This week, I have been very impressed with how respectful our children have been and how keen they are to share their thoughts about the sad loss of Queen Elizabeth II. Don’t forget it is a Bank Holiday on Monday and school will be closed.

Headteachers Update 8th July 2022

As you can see from our newsletter this week we have certainly had a fun packed fortnight at Hob Moor. The children have all really enjoyed taking part in our Sports Days this week, the weather was really kind to us and it was fantastic to welcome so many visitors to cheer the children down the track. A huge thank you to Mr Hinde for organising such a wonderful week of sporting activity.

Last week Mrs Wilkinson and I took a group of children for an update on the new housing at Lowfield Green. Wates development showed us round the new estate and we met some of the residents. We had a very informative visit and it was great to see all the roads that we named 18 months ago. It made it extra special that one of our children now lives in one of the new properties. What a legacy to share in the future!
