Using the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, we offer a rich curriculum across six key areas:
Every experience is personalised to meet the unique interests, strengths, and needs of each child, guided by the Tapestry Cherry Garden Curriculum. This holistic approach ensures learning is both meaningful and memorable. Our EYFS and Orchard phase curriculum is underpinned by Birth to 5 Matters, Development Matters, and the EYFS Framework—offering full coverage with expert support for diverse learning needs.
As part of our Orchard Phase, we:
We begin our EYFS journey by gently guiding each child to explore, “It’s great to be me”, embracing and celebrating every unique strength, preference, and personality from the very first day. As the year unfolds, we gradually expand their world—moving outward from knowing themselves to understanding and connecting with others, our community, and the wider world—while living and reinforcing our six school values each step of the way. This nurturing, inclusive approach ensures every child feels valued, understood, and truly part of Hob Moor Oaks Academy, reflecting best practice in SEND provision that honours individuality and belonging.
Play lies at the heart of our EYFS. We offer long, uninterrupted sessions where children lead their own learning, inspired by what fascinates them most. Our dedicated adults are there with gentle guidance and encouragement, helping develop the Characteristics of Effective Learning—curiosity, resilience, creativity—creating our community of “Fantastic Learners.”
Each child has a special keyworker, with a caring 1:2 ratio. This relationship allows us to deeply understand each child’s development and needs, enabling us to respond thoughtfully and adjust learning to match their individual pace and style.
Families are a constant and cherished part of our EYFS experience. Our termly Stay & Play sessions invite you into the classroom, so you can:
We also offer lots of wonderful, regular opportunities to collaborate with parents and carers to work together for the healthy development of each child
Regular updates through Tapestry on the care diary and learning journal help you celebrate milestones and learning moments together.
We capture pupil observations using our online learning journal, Tapestry. Here we use:
