We use the scheme ‘rocket phonics’
Children will learn how to master phonics through tuning into sounds, playing games with
instruments, signing nursery rhymes and having discrete focused teaching sessions daily.
They will be exposed to games that develop their vocabulary and how they hear sounds.
Pathway 1
In path way one, Pre-Phonic Development is taught through…
● Multiple multisensory encounters
● Stories, rhymes, songs and games!
● Using everyday objects
Children will be experimenting with sounds in their provision time., as well as focus teaching groups. They will be encouraged to See it, Say (sign) it, Hear it, Show it.
Pathway 2
In pathway 2, children will have focus teaching groups and will be encouraged to
copy simple phonics sounds. This can be done through ‘bucket’ phonics and ‘what’s in the box.’
Children will be taught to match letters and the sounds in order from rocket phonics. They
will begin to know the sound of some letters of their name and they can find other words
starting with the same sound.
Pathway 3
In this pathway children will have focus teaching phonics sessions, alongside
reading and writing sessions to embed and practise learning in phonics. Children will know all
phase 2 sounds and some phase 3 sounds. They will be able to sign, say or write each sound
and use them in their reading.
