  • Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At HMO our EYFS offer follows the Hob Moor Oaks model for Teaching & Learning which is organised into 3 pathways. Essentially, the curriculum is built around meeting the holistic needs of each child. Pupils in our Early Years Foundation Stage are baselined using our branch map assessments. Many of our children in the early years are working between birth to 3 years which runs alongside Pathways 1 to 3 in the Hob Moor Oaks Progression Document. Our pupils who are within the Early years department are part of the orchard phase. The pupils are given a broad range of knowledge and skills practicing the characteristics of effective learning that provide the right foundations for good future progress throughout school and preparation for life.

Pathway 1 (Branches 1-4)

Pupils on this pathway are at very early stages of development, and are typically assessed at Branch Maps 1 – 4.

They access a curriculum that enables them to:

  • develop positive relationships with familiar adults;
  • establish behaviours through which they can communicate with others;
  • explore the world around them using their physical and sensory capabilities;
  • develop a sense of security in the schoolenvironment.

Pathway 2 (Branches 5-7)

Pupils on this pathway are starting to develop more formal skills within the 6 areas of learning and are typically assessed at Branch Maps 5 – 8. They access a curriculum that enables them to:

  • develop a more intentional formal communication system;
  • develop functional problem-solving skills;
  • starting to engage with more subject specific learning

Pathway 3 (Branches 8 -12)

Pupils on this pathway are moving towards pre-key stage standards and are typically assessed at Branch maps 8 – 12.

 They access a curriculum that enables them to:

  • develop a range of life skills;
  • communicate effectively with a range of communication partners;
  • develop their confidence and independence in familiar settings and within the community.
