Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Relationships including Sex Education (RSE)

As part of the PSED and PSHE curriculum at HMO we aim to promote personal, social, health and economic education that will provide all our young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills to live a healthy, safe and fulfilled life both now and in the future.

Parent/ Carers rights to withdraw

Since September 2020, parents are unable to withdraw children from the
Relationships Education and Health Education.

HMO school leaders have made the decision to teach Sex Education in Years 5 and 6. Parents do have the right of withdrawal from non science sex education. We will provide parents the opportunity to review the resources prior to teaching the lessons in order to help them to make an informed decision.

HMO will liaise with school health to work collaboratively to support the delivery of our sex education.

Although parents/carers have the right to request to withdraw their child from any or all of sex education as part of Relationships Education, it is our aim to encourage parents to see the value of RSE learning and its contribution to keeping children safe, developing their emotional, social and physical wellbeing and for promoting equality and social justice.

As a school, we are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers and if you would like to find out more curriculum information, please view the materials and resources on our website. If you would like to discuss any concerns or highlight any areas you think are important please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Please see the documentation below which details how and what we teach in PSHE and PSED.
